Munster

The Kielty Clan is an important part of the Dalcassian Clan, and a significant part of the Kielty experience.

To understand more about the relationship between our family name and the Kings of Munster please go to the Dalcassian Clan web site. The Dalcassian race has many great families, our relationship with the O Brien Family is key to understanding our history. Also our relationship with the O Dea Clan and the Quinn Clan should be explored to fully understand our heritage.

Giard, Clayton, Iowa Kielty’s - 1860 U. S. Census Data

Patrick Kielty b. 1831 - Ireland Occupation Farmer Bridget Kielty b. 1830 - Ireland Housewife         Mary Kielty b. 1854 - Ohio                                         Ann Kielty b. 1856 - Giard, Iowa                       Michael Kielty b. 1858 - Giard, Iowa

An interesting piece of information has surfaced in my research that I want to share regarding Patrick b. 1831 and Bridget b. 1830 Kielty.  They originally ( according to the birth place of Mary Kielty) lived in Ohio before comming to Iowa in the mid 1850’s probably around 1855-56 or so.

Patrick b. 1817 and Cathrine b. 1822 Kielty came to Iowa about 1855. Prior to coming to Iowa Patrick ( b. 1817 ) went from his port of arrival at New Orleans to Kentucky, Ohio and Virginia, I have felt for some time that he either went to see or was looking for relatives in those states.  Now comes the interesting part.

Patrick and Bridget had 3 Children according to the 1860 census. According to this census Patrick and Bridget were now living in Iowa.

     Mary b. 1853-4 in Ohio, Ann b. 1855-6 in Iowa, and Michael b. 1859 in Iowa

Patrick and Bridget are absent from the 1870 census and all census data after that, however the 1870 census data shows the following for Patrick and Cathrine. They Show 8 Children living with them;

     Mary b. 1853-4 in Ohio, Mary is shown on the census as a Domestic Servant, Ann b. 1854-55, shown only as at home, and Michael b. 1859 also shown as at home, additionally they show, James age 9, Richard age 7, John age 5, Bridget age 3, and Cathrine age 1.

     The 1880 census data does not show Mary ( she died in 1872 and Was buried in St Marys, Mc Gregor, Clayton County Iowa.  Michael is no longer at home in the 1880 census and does not appear on an 1880 census that I have found ( it appears that he and his wife Mary A. may have been living in Edmunds Dakota.  The 1880 Census also does not Show the child cathrine age 1 at the 1770 census, we can only assume that she died during this period.

     While I dislike drawing conclusions from these data, it appears that the children of Patrick and Bridget came to live with Patrick and Cathrine during the 1860 to 1870 period, and that given Patricks trip to Ohio after his arrival in New Orleans and Patrick and Bridgets subsequent move to Ohio in the 1855 time frame these two patricks were probably related as either cusins or Uncle and Nephew. it also appears that while related Mary, Ann and Michael may have been something other than siblings of James, Richard, John, Bridget and Cathrine. I will be doing more research in this area to confirm my suppositions.
